Cuisinart CBK-100 2-Pound Programmable Breadmaker Reviews

07Cuisinart brings years of culinary appliance expertise to the development of its feature-packed bread makers. The company focuses on more than just functionality, however. The CBK-100 is a stylish addition to the kitchen, with its stainless steel finish. Users should follow included recipes carefully, however. The machine can be picky where ingredients are concerned, and performs best with bread flour, not all purpose flour.

Key features

  • 12 preprogrammed cycles
  • 3 loaf sizes
  • Stainless steel finish
  • Stay-cool handles
  • Removable lid
  • 13 hour delay timer
  • 15 minute pause
  • Power failure backup

Cuisinart is a company with over thirty years of experience manufacturing top quality kitchen appliances. Their bread machines are no exception. The CBK-100 is a solid machine with many excellent features, including a removable lid to help with clean-up. Stay-cool handles allow you to move the machine if necessary, too. The stainless steel finish is a classy touch that blends well in today’s kitchens. It’s also much easier to clean that plastic competitors. Three loaf sizes mean that you can make the amount of bread you want, when you want it – especially when you factor in the machine’s 13 hour delay timer!

Loaf size and shape

This machine produces 1 pound, 1.5 pound, and 2 pound loaves. The shape is similar to bread you would bake in a conventional oven loaf pan, although it is slightly wider than most store-bought breads. The slices may need to be cut in half to fit in a toaster.

Settings and cycles

Cuisinart includes twelve preprogrammed cycles in this machine. They include basic/white, French/Italian, whole wheat, sweet, gluten free, packet mix (for prepackaged yeast breads), cake, dough, pasta dough, jams, bake only, and rapid bake. That is quite an impressive selection of cycles for a budget brand bread maker. Choose between light, medium and dark crusts, and 1, 1.5, and 2 pound loaf sizes, as well.

Additional features

The control panel on this bread machine is very user-friendly. You can navigate the features with ease, and the LCD display allows you to confirm your choices by quickly double-checking what the machine is set to do. An alarm for mix-ins such as fruit and nuts is marked with five short beeps, and another series of six short beeps occurs before the bake cycle begins. This allows you to remove the dough hook so that your bread bakes with only one small hole in the middle. No more digging around for the paddle!

One great feature for concerned parents is that this model is BPA free. It’s the first bread machine that I have seen which boasts this unique feature. Additionally, the warranty for the CBK-100 is three years, despite market norms of 1 year for warranties. Cusinart is confident in its product, which usually is a good sign.

The Cuisinart CBK-100 includes many excellent features, and Cuisinart appears to have decent customer service, as well. In addition to some of the features already discussed, one big plus is the power failure backup. Even if a storm hits or your power goes out, you’ll still get decent bread. Another thing to keep in mind is the 15 minute pause, which allows you add anything you may have forgotten, or to halt the bread machine for just enough time to make sure everything is going according to plan. The price point is good, with this model frequently running for $100 or less on

Some users have complained that the machine doesn’t perform well with all purpose flour. For best results, you will want to stick with bread flour. The paddle has a known defect which can cause it to break, especially when working with more difficult doughs. If you choose to buy this model, make sure that you buy a backup paddle or two as well.

Cuisinart is known for good products, and this seems to be as reliable and efficient as many of their other appliances. Users can benefit from the high end features, without the exorbitant price tag of many brands. That said, it is important to note that some problems have been reported with the machine. The recipe manual, in particular, is known to be of poor quality. Use your own recipes, or source some on line. The ones provided with the machine appear to be dismal failures. All in all, however, this is a solid choice for a bread machine. Experienced and novice bakers will enjoy using it for many years.
