Breadman BK1050S 2-Pound Professional Bread Maker with Collapsible Kneading Paddles and Automatic Fruit and Nut Dispenser

Breadman BK1050S 2-Pound Professional Bread Maker with Collapsible Kneading Paddles and Automatic Fruit and Nut Dispenser

Breadman BK1050S 2-PoundBreadman was one of the first bread maker companies to sell their wares to the general public. Ling an industry leader, they have recently faced many significant issues in quality control, particularly where there more complex models are concerned. The Breadman BK1050S is no exception. If you are considering this bread maker for your family, read on for important information you will want to know before you buy.

Key features

  • Large, 2 pound capacity
  • Collpasible kneading paddles
  • Automatic fruit and nut dispenser
  • 14 dough and bread cycles
  • 3 crust color settings
  • 3 loaf sizes
  • 15 hour delay timer
  • Low price point

The Breadman 1050S is designed to produce 2 pound loaves at its maximum capacity, but can also bake 1 and 1.5 pound loaves. The machine produces bread in three crust colors, and is pre-programmed with 14 separate bake and dough cycle settings. A 15 hour delay timer provides bakers with a little extra time than the industry standard 13 hours. The inclusion of collapsible paddles helps to hide the fact that your bread was made in a machine, and the automatic fruit and nut dispenser increases the convenience factor. For the features it offers, the model is bargain-priced.

Loaf size and shape

Like many of the more complex Breadman bread machines, this model bakes a loaf that is rectangular, and sized almost identically to store-bought breads and common loaf pan sizes. The result is the ability for the home baker to simply say that bread is homemade, without giving away the fact that a bread machine played a role in the process. Three loaf sizes – 1 pound, 1.5 pound, and 2 pounds – can be made with this machine.

Dimensions

16″ x 18″  x 12″   inches

Settings and cycles

The Breadman 1050S offers 14 bake and dough cycles, including a special setting for artisan breads. The machine also has three crust color options – light, medium, and dark. Low carb and gluten free bak settings are included for the health conscious, and those with dietary concerns.

Cycle length

Unfortunately, the Breadman 1050S manual does not provide users with a list of times for different cycles so you’ll have to measure them. Based on user commentary, it appears that the average cycle for this machine lasts ~3 hours and 30 minutes.

Additional features

The Breadman 1050S comes preloaded with numerous features, designed for the convenience of product owners. Home bakers can enjoy a wide selection of recipes, and the use of the included measuring cup and spoon, as well. For its price point, the Breadman comes preloaded with more than most bread makers, and allows home bakers the chance to feel as if they are baking with a top of the line machine. The stainless steel housing is attractive, as well.

Pros

There is much to be said for the thought that went into this design. The product includes numerous high end touches, including the collapsible paddles and the automatic fruit and nut dispensers. The two pound loaf capacity is much more than most families wil need, and the recipe book offers quite a few tasty treats to try. The artisan dough mode is one which I have not seen offered on any other bread machine, and is a nice tough for bakers who like to get creative in the kitchen.

Cons

Unfortunately, as with many of the more complex Breadman machines, the 1050S is plagued with problems. The most common complaint from users is in regards to the wobbly paddles, which collapse before necessary, and scratch the Teflon coating. The idea of eating Teflon is not very appealing to most bakers, and this machine has a reputation for making it an ingredient.

Another key problem regarding Breadman in general is customer service and part replacement. Numerous 1050S owners have complained that there are no replacement parts for their model. Another frequent problem is the replacement parts being out of stock  for months on end. Breadman is experiencing problems, and it might not be the best moment to acquire one of their machines.

Conclusion

There are some worrying signs where Breadman, as a company, is concerned. The more complex models produced by this manufacturer are facing numerous difficulties, and reviewers are unhappy. Despite the best of intentions, this company has produced cheaply designed machines with numerous flaws. Their poor customer service does not better the lack of quality control that their products display.

Although the 1050S offers many high end features, judging from the reviews, it may not be worth it. Save your money and invest in another brand. Breville offers a model with many of the features mentioned for this product, although at a much higher price point. Cheaper models made by Oster also deliver consistently. My favorites are still the Zojirushi’s, they are the absolute best, but they are pricey. If you’re looking for a machine that’s under $100, check out my top choice here.
